“The Bible’s Teaching Regarding The Judgments- Part 2: The Past Judgments of Satan and the Fallen Angels” by Dr. James Woods, Sr.

The Judgments of Satan and the Fallen Angels.
Part 2 of our study on the Past Judgments will first present a summary of The Judgment of Satan and the Fallen Angels. Some of the key scriptures addressing this topic are: Matt. 25:41; Isa. 14:12-14; Ezek. 28:11-19; and Rev. 12:3-4.
As the just consequences of Satan’s Fall, God’s judgment was to cast Satan down from his position in heaven as the anointed cherub, first to this earth and its atmosphere, second to his defeat at the cross of Christ, third temporarily to the abyss, and finally to the Lake of Fire for eternity. After being displaced from Heaven, the earth and its atmosphere became the primary place of his evil operations. Eph. 2:2 names Satan as “the ruler of the kingdom of the air,” (“air” referring to the atmospheric heavens). This judgment of Satan included the angels who chose to follow him in his rebellion and who are now involved in carrying out his directions (Eph. 6:11-12). Contained within this judgment was God’s condemning Satan and his angels to the Lake of Fire (Matt. 25:41), that final phase of their judgment that will be executed at the end of Christ’s Millennial Reign (Rev. 20:10).
The Word of God is plain regarding the origin of Satan, as it is also plain regarding his career and its conclusion. We must bear in mind that the condemnation of the fallen angels is the same as Satan’s condemnation as they will share a common judgment. Over the interval from Satan’s fall to the casting of Satan and his demons into the Lake of Fire (Matt. 25:41 and Rev. 20:10); there are five progressive judgments to be considered:

  1. Satan’s Moral Fall. The time of this occurrence in the dateless past is not revealed, however Satan’s moral fall, with its necessary separation from God, is clearly covered in Isa. 14:12-15; Ezek. 28:14-17; and 1 Tim. 3:6. It is clear from the previous passages, that Satan did lose his heavenly position, but he was allowed to retain a large portion of his power, and his access to God (see Job 1:6-7) was intact.
  2. Satan’s Judgment through the Cross. Through the Cross the perfect judgment of Satan and his horde was being secured (see John 12:31; 16:11; Col. 2:14, 15), but, as mentioned earlier, the execution of that sentence is yet future. This sentence with its execution was predicted as far back as the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:15).
  3. Satan Cast Out Of Heaven. During the coming Tribulation, as the result of a war in Heaven, Satan will be literally cast permanently out of Heaven and restricted to the earth and below. He will then intensify his evil activity in great wrath knowing that his time will be short (Rev. 12:7-12. Note, also, Isa. 14:12; Luke 10:18).
  4. Satan Confined To The Abyss. For the thousand-year reign of Christ upon the earth, Satan will be sealed in the abyss, after which he must be loosed for a “little season” (Rev. 20:1-3, 7).
  5. Satan’s Final Doom. Having promoted an open rebellion against God during the “little season,” Satan will then be cast into the Lake of Fire to be tormented day and night for ever and ever (Rev. 20:10).

The next article in this series will present the “Fall of Man and It’s Consequences”.
