PART TWO END TIME EVENTS
PRE-TRIBULATION PREMILLENNIALISM
Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism is a theological viewpoint within Christian eschatology (the study of end-times events). It’s characterized by the belief that certain significant events will occur before the onset of the seven-year period of tribulation described in the Bible. Here are the key points and significant aspects of Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism:
1. Pre-Tribulation Rapture: The central tenet of Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism is the belief in a pre-tribulation Rapture. According to this view, before the seven-year period of tribulation begins, Jesus Christ will return in the clouds to “rapture” (catch up) living believers and resurrect deceased believers. They will be taken to be with Christ in heaven. This event is often seen as a merciful act of God to spare believers from the intense suffering and judgments of the tribulation.
2. Distinction between Rapture and Second Coming: Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism distinguishes between the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The Rapture is seen as a secret, imminent event where Christ meets believers in the air, while the Second Coming is a later, public event where Christ returns to Earth with His glorified saints to establish His millennial kingdom.
3. The Tribulation: This viewpoint acknowledges the seven-year tribulation period described in the Bible, during which various judgments and events unfold, including the rise of the Antichrist. Pre-Tribulation Premillennialists believe that the Church (believers) will not experience this period of tribulation on Earth but will be in heaven during this time.
4. Role of Israel: Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism often emphasizes the role of national Israel in end-times events. It anticipates the restoration of Israel as a significant event that precedes the tribulation.
5. Millennial Kingdom: Like other forms of Premillennialism, Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism holds that after the tribulation, Christ will return to Earth with His saints and establish a literal thousand-year reign (the Millennium). During this time, Christ and His glorified saints will rule over the nations.
6. Dispensationalism: Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism is closely associated with dispensational theology. Dispensationalists divide human history into distinct “dispensations,” or periods, during which God interacts with humanity in different ways. They see the Church Age as one dispensation and the future tribulation and millennium as separate dispensations.
7. Future Resurrections and Judgments: This view holds that there will be multiple resurrections and judgments. The first resurrection includes believers, which occurs at the Rapture. The second resurrection includes unbelievers, which occurs after the Millennium at the Great White Throne Judgment.
8. Hope and Comfort: Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism provides hope and comfort to believers by assuring them that they will be spared from the worst of the tribulation and will be in the presence of Christ before it begins.
It’s important to note that Pre-Tribulation Premillennialism is just one of several interpretations of end-times events within Christian eschatology. Other views, such as Post-Tribulation Premillennialism, Amillennialism, and Postmillennialism, offer different perspectives on the timing of the Rapture and the nature of the millennium. These views often reflect varying theological traditions and hermeneutical approaches to interpreting biblical prophecy.
